چکیده

Reoviruses have been determined to be relatively large in size, 700-775 A in diameter; icosahedral in shape; possessing an inner membrane of unknown function and composition;l-4 and containing an unusual double-helical RNA structure of high molecular weight which is relatively resistant to RNase.5' 6 Cell cultures infected with reoviruses contain pale-green perinuclear inclusion bodies (acridine orange) which are insensitive to both RNase and DNase.3' I Although infection of cells results in a specific inhibition of cellular DNA synthesis with no apparent change of RNA or protein synthesis,8 the synthesis of reovirus RNA remains to be demonstrated. The present communication describes the synthesis of reovirus type 2 RNA and the effect of actinomycin D on viral RNA and protein synthesis in a stable line of human amnion and HeLa cells.

Reovirus: effect of noninfective viral components on cellular deoxyribonucleic acid synthesis.

We determined the effects of noninfective reovirus components on cellular deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) synthesis. Reovirus inactivated by ultraviolet light inhibited cellular DNA synthesis, whereas reovirus cores and empty capsids did not. Both cores and empty capsids were adsorbed to cells. Adenine-rich ribonucleic acid (RNA) from reovirus, adsorbed to cells in the presence of diethyl-aminoethy...

Bacteriol. 90:936-945. 1965.-There is no inhibition of protein or deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) synthesis in L cells infected with reovirus until the time that new virus starts to form about 8 hr after infection. At this time, both protein synthesi...

Comparative investigations of infectious runting and stunting syndrome in vaccinated breeder chicks by inactivated reovirus and chicks from non-vaccinated breeders

Reoviruses are important pathogens responsible for poor growth performance and silent losses in the poultry industry. They are associated with many disease and syndromes such as malabsorption (runting and stunting syndrome), respiratory diseases and immunosuppression. Broiler birds are most susceptible to viral infections during the early post hatching period. Therefore, the transfer of materna...

Poliovirus Particles do not Form in Preinfected Cells with Reovirus

Background and Aims: Inhibition of viral growth in coinfected cells with two different viruses has been described. This phenomenon known as viral interference can occur in several virus host systems such as interference of enterovirus infection on poliovirus vaccine strains. In this study we superinfected reovirus infected HeLa cells with poliovirus to determine if poliovirus can replicate in s...

Gene-specific inhibition of reovirus replication by RNA interference.

Mammalian reoviruses contain a genome of 10 segments of double-stranded RNA (dsRNA). Reovirus replication and assembly occur within distinct structures called viral inclusions, which form in the cytoplasm of infected cells. Viral nonstructural proteins muNS and sigmaNS and core protein mu2 play key roles in forming viral inclusions and recruiting other viral proteins and RNA to these structures...
